Stories @ TCAT

TCAT Elizabethton has shown improvement in meeting standards set by the college accrediting agency, the Council on Occupational Education (COE).

Following a week-long visit by an inspecting team this fall, the team recommended COE accreditation be renewed for another six years, according to College President Dean Blevins.

Practical nursing graduates had a 98 percent licensure pass rate on the Tennessee Board of Nursing exam to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. TCAT Elizabethton offers nursing classes on the ETSU Kingsport Campus, beginning in January, and at TCAT Elizabethton’s Main Campus, 426 Highway 91 North, beginning in May and August each year.

Other program completion was 94 percent, followed by job placement at 93 percent.

In addition to nursing, TCAT Elizabethton offers classes on campus that may be completed in 12 to 20 months in Administrative Office Technology, Automotive Technology, Computer Information Technology, Diesel Power Equipment Technology, HVAC, Industrial Electricity, Machine Tools, Millwright Skills, Phlebotomy, Pipefitting and Welding. Soon to be offered is Cosmetology.

Earlier this month, Blevins was presented a plaque at the annual meeting of COE in recognition of TCAT Elizabethton’s commitment to Quality and Integrity in Career and Technical Education the past 45 years.

It all began on October 1, 1965 when the doors opened for workforce training at 1500 Arney Street in Elizabethton. There were 50 students who attended. The first classes were offered in auto mechanics, electricity and office occupations. There was no tuition fee. The first graduation was held in 1967.

TCAT Elizabethton has undergone self-studies and subsequent site visits every six years in order to maintain accreditation. The college was initially accredited in 1973.

The Completion, Placement and Licensure Pass Rate data summary for TCAT Elizabethton was sent to COE offices in Atlanta, Ga., earlier this month. A copy of the COE data summary is shown below.
