ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology had a prominent decal displayed on the Mystic Missile Racing Number 4 Modified Race Car sponsored by L. S. Starrett Company of Athol, Mass., a training partner of TCAT Elizabethton.
The August 17 race was held at Bristol International Motor Speedway, a half mile concrete oval track located approximately 30 miles northeast of TCAT Elizabethton’s main campus at 426 Highway 91 North in Elizabethton. Faculty and staff at TCAT Elizabethton posed for a group photo with the Modified Race Car.

Students from TCAT Elizabethton also attended the event.
Starrett, founded in 1880, manufacturers more than 500 precision tools, gauges, measuring instruments and saw blades for industrial, professional and consumer markets worldwide.
Heavy rain interrupted the race after 50 laps. It did not resume until after 11 p.m. It was shortened to 100 laps from its scheduled 150. In the end, Eric Goodale earned the victory by holding off pole winner Todd Szegedy in the closing laps on the high-banked half-mile.
In qualifying, Szegedy set a series track record for the Whelen Modified Tour at Bristol with a lap of 131.967 mph. The 2003 series champion from Ridgefield, Connecticut was one of eight drivers overall who bested the series track record set a year earlier by Woody Pitkat.
