The NC3 Signing Day at TCAT Elizabethton was streamed live over the internet on Thursday, Feb. 16. John Lee, NC3 Certified Instructor at TCAT Elizabethton, pictured at the podium, welcomed some 200 attendees, including students, parents, friends, high school counselors, and business and industrial representatives to the event held at the TCAT Elizabethton Main Campus, 426 Highway 91 North, across from the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in the Watauga Industrial Park.

Welding was the most popular program of study for students who signed up at the NC3 Signing Day event held at TCAT Elizabethton on Thursday, Feb. 16. The event mirrors signing day for athletes to play sports at a particular college or university.
Sponsored by the National Coalition Certification Center (NC3), students from 10 high schools in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington Counties were invited to participate.
All total, there were 70 signups. Among them, 21 signed up for Welding, 12 for Electricity/Electronics, 11 for Automotive Technology, 10 for Diesel Power Equipment Technology, four each for Certified Nurse Assistant and HVAC/Refrigeration, two each for Administrative Office Technology and Millwright/Industrial Maintenance, and one each for Computer Information Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Pipefiting and Plumbing, and Phlebotomy.
John Lee, NC3 Certified Instructor at TCAT Elizabethton, event coordinator, said he was pleased with the signup event, the second in as many years held at TCAT Elizabethton. Forty technical institutions around the country hosted similar events and were tied together live, with nationwide simulcasts.
TCAT Elizabethton Director Dean Blevins said “By signing incoming students to Letters of Intent, we let them know that technical education will prepare them for a strong career."
Community leaders, including representatives of TCAT Elizabethton’s training partners, were also invited to participate in the event. Blevins said students and family members had the opportunity to interact with potential future employers and learn more about high-demand jobs in many industries, including transportation, energy, aviation, and manufacturing.
