Myles Cook, a Marine Corps veteran and Criminal Justice instructor at TCAT Elizabethton, received a special commendation medal for exemplary community and military service during a Veterans Day ceremony held at the college on Nov. 12.
College President Dean Blevins presented the Challenge Coin to Cook on behalf of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Chancellor Flora Tydings.
Tydings said TBR commissioned a Challenge Coin to recognize veterans who continue to exercise characteristics of honor, courage, commitment, integrity, duty, respect, discipline and sacrifice in their role as student, alum, faculty or staff member.
In presenting the award, Blevins thanked Cook for his service to our country. “We appreciate your contribution to the training programs at TCAT Elizabethton,” Blevins said.
Cook has 13 years of law enforcement-related experience, including serving as deputy for the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He also has five years' experience as an adjunct instructor at East Tennessee State University’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology.
Deacon Bowers, State of Tennessee Veterans Employment Representative, now retired, was guest at the event. Also attending were TCAT student veterans Micah Clark, Austin Cornett, Stephanie Allen, Chase Graves, William Harman, Nicole Melton, Mikel Osborne, Luke Poteet, Ryan Revis, Karah Upright, James Webb, Robert Williams and Jacob Wilson.
TCAT Elizabethton is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents and accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, Atlanta, Ga. The college training programs are approved by the Tennessee Office of Veterans Affairs and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
