Stories @ TCAT

More than 150 Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructors, representing business, industry and educational facilities throughout the U.S., attended the “NC3 Train the Trainer” event at TCAT Elizabethton April 23-27, 2018.

Maureen Tholen and Karen Cuta of 3M, St. Paul, Minn., pictured on the right, visited the NC3 Train-the-Trainer event held at TCAT Elizabethton. Also pictured, from left, are Roger Tadajewski, executive director of NC3, Kenosha, Wisc., Dean Blevins, president of TCAT Elizabethton and chairman of the Tennessee Council for Career and Technical Education, and Dan Ramirez, associate director of NC3.

This was the largest number of instructors to attend such an event outside of NC3 Headquarters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, according to John Lee, NC3 Master Trainer at TCAT Elizabethton. “Instructors were in school for one week studying a variety of in-depth and hands-on technical courses to become certified to teach the courses at their respective work locations and award NC3 certifications,” Lee said.

The courses included Automotive Scanner Diagnostics, Mechanical and Electronic Torque, Precision Measurement Instruments, Greenlee Certifications in voice/data, video and fiber optics, Advanced Measuring Instruments, Wheel Service, Rotor Matching, Dremel 3D Idea Builder, Battery Starting and Charging, Pro-Link Diesel Ultra, Advanced Diagnostics, Multimeter, and Festo Electricity and Fluid Power.

Classes were held at the TCAT Elizabethton Main Campus, located at 426 Highway 91 North, in the Watauga Industrial Park across from the Elizabethton Municipal Airport. This was the fourth NC3 “Train the Trainer” event held at TCAT Elizabethton since the college was designated a NC3 Regional Training Center, one of only five in the U.S.

A reception, sponsored by Snap-on and Starrett, was held for attendees on the first evening of the event. In addition to Snap-on and Starrett, other NC3 training partners at TCAT Elizabethton are Trane, Greenlee, FCA, Starrett, FAB Lab, Dremel, IC3 Digital Literacy and Festo.

The National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) is a network of education providers and corporations that support, advance and validate new and emerging technology skills in the transportation, aviation and energy industry sectors.
