Santa recently made a surprise visit to 10 residents of Cornerstone Village in Johnson City with goodies in tow.
Elves, a.k.a. students at TCAT Elizabethton, prepared gifts for the Silver Angles under the leadership of Santa, a.k.a. Loretta Eades, phlebotomy instructor. The gifts were purchased from some $500 in donations made by faculty, staff and students at TCAT Elizabethton.
“It was a heart-warming experience to know that all requests made by the Silver Angels, residents at Cornerstone Villege were filled,” Eades said. She said most angels requested candy, chocolates, cinnamon candy and sugar free chocalates.
Eades said names of patients/residents that didn’t usually have visitors/family were recipients of the Santa gifts.
Does she plan to do this again each year? “Yes, you bet,” she replied.
The phlebotomy program at TCAT Elizabethton teaches students how to draw blood via venipuncture or skin puncture. The program prepares students for the National Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PTC) Exam and employment as a phlebotomist.
The PTC includes theory and hands-on instruction during a full trimester totaling 432 clock hours. Students must be at least 18 years of age. Classes meet from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday-Thursday at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, 426 Highway 91 North, Elizabethton, across from the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in the Watauga Industrial Park.
