Patricia Painter Henderson, senior instructor of Business Systems Technology at the Mountain City campus of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton, has been named TCAT Elizabethton Student Services Coordinator, Director Dean Blevins, announced on July 25. She succeeds Mike Cole who retired.

James A. Smith II, a native of Mountain City, has been appointed Henderson’s successor at the Mountain City campus.

Smith earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in human resource management from King College. He has over 15 years’ experience with state agencies, having worked in administrative roles and as a Counselor in the Tennessee Department of Correction, and as an Internal Auditor at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Henderson graduated with honors from East Tennessee State University, and was placed on the Dean’s List. At ETSU, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, with a concentration in Business Management, and a Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Student Personnel. She also attended Walters State Community College and Tennessee State University prior to entering ETSU.

She has more than 20 years’ experience in various leadership roles, including Human Resources Management, Office Administration and classroom instruction. In 2007, Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen presented Ms. Henderson with a “You Make the Difference” Certificate of Appreciation.

For her volunteer efforts, she was named a Global Ambassador. This award is given to volunteers who are making a difference, and for unselfish dedication for helping others and their community.

Ms. Henderson has been actively serving as a faculty advisor for the National Technical Honor Society at TCAT Elizabethton. Ms. Henderson has also served as a faculty advisor for SkillsUSA the past 12 years. She has traveled with students from her Business Systems Technology class to Chattanooga and competed over the past four years.  Her students have won many silver and bronze medals in bulletin board, prepared speech, and job interview competition.

Smith said he is excited to return home and join the Tennessee College of Applied Technology as Instructor of Administrative Office Technology and looks forward to serving the students in the Mountain City/Johnson County area. The AOT class meets at 110 Pioneer Village Drive, in Mountain City.
